Classroom Sneak Peek

Thursday, January 30, 2020—Do you ever wonder what our Atoms are up to? Here is a sneak peek into the sixth and seventh-grade #PBL classroom. Seventh Graders discussed the nesting habits of native birds, and are designing an appropriate nesting box for their chosen bird. The groups will choose a winning "design" and then they will work as a class to build the box and place it in a park. Sixth Graders have been investigating ancient architecture and shared their findings with their peers. Scholars discussed how these ancient buildings were constructed, and how ancient styles can still be seen today.

Fourth Grade Kicks Into February

Monday, February 3, 2020—Atoms traveled to Marcellus to practice teamwork skills and get some much-needed exercise after being cooped up in the classroom all winter. Students participated in capture the flag, dodgeball, kickball, and other cooperative games that got Atoms up and moving with their classmates. Teamwork is a skill that students use every day in the classroom. Thanks, Ultimate Goal, for planning active games that helped Atoms work together and have fun!

One Fish, Two Fish, Who Drew That Fish?

Wednesday, January 29, 2020—One fish, two fish, who drew that fish?! Our second grade Van Goghs visited Painting with a Twist in Dewitt. #SASAtoms created masterpieces of rainbow fish in their natural habitats. They followed step by step instructions to make colorful scales and puckering lips. Thank you to the professional artists here for hosting such a great morning together!

Wednesday, January 29, 2020—This January, students were celebrated for demonstrating the attribute of fairness. Students were chosen on their ability to show fairness to their peers and teachers. Most improved, citizenship and highest academics were also awarded to students. Teacher of the month recognition was given to Ms. Sasso and Mrs. Cusano who show fairness to everyone on a daily basis. In honor of National School Choice Week, one student per grade level was selected to read their writing piece about what they love about #SASCS. Great job, Atoms.

Kindergarten gets the MOST

Friday, January 24, 2020—#SASCS Kindergarten classes took a trip to the Museum of Science & Technology - MOST where they were able to see just how big dinosaurs were before they went extinct. The classes interacted with the hands-on exhibits while working on their social skills, such as taking turns, working together and using their manners. Atoms also had a blast walking through the enormous heart and listening to the heartbeat, one student said: “it was great for meditating.” This was one of their favorite trips so far as they were able to be hands-on for most of the day.

Atoms Climb to Great Heights

Tuesday, January 28, 2020—Our Elementary & Middle School #SASAtoms visited WonderWorks Destiny last week to break out of the classroom and explore the concepts they have been talking about in class, IRL. While Third Grade Atoms spent the day exploring the exhibits, Fifth Grade Atoms took to the Sky! Fifth Grade Atoms explored the museum and the ropes course to celebrate the end of the unit of study about scientists and inventors. Every student enjoyed the museum as they experimented like the innovators they had studied. Nearly every student tried the ropes course and several found it very challenging. Pulling together they cheered each other on when students became nervous or uncertain. Many students conquered their fears and realized that they can do hard things. Our #SASAtoms found lifelong lessons in this fun activity! Go Atoms!
