SAS HS Student Athletes Score the Ultimate Goal

Syracuse Academy of Science Student Athletes Nominated for All Patriots League

Friday, November 4th, 2022: We’ve all heard the saying “hard work pays off.” Head soccer coach, Mr. Bility, couldn’t agree more. Since August, when Syracuse Academy of Science finally got its own soccer field, he knew it was time to get to work. The team had been anxiously waiting to step on that field since Covid-19 started. Fast forward to 2022, the SAS Atoms were able to compete in their first official season as a school team. The season had many ups and downs, but the team competed and fought in every game until the last whistle. Even coaches from other schools saw this hard work in our student-athletes and wanted to recognize them.

Four of our student-athletes were nominated by Coach Bility and other coaches to the OHSL top players of the season. Congratulations to the following recipients:

Jamal Abdirahman: First Team All Patriots League

Taha Hayali: First Team All Patriots League

Ismael Colon Arencibia: Second Team All Patriots League

Sharif Hussein: Second Team All Patriots League

We also had two honorable mentions that we have to recognize as well:

Nischal Kharel and William Capra.

Congratulations on a stellar season, Atoms.

These students spent the last two weeks brainstorming various acts of kindness that they can lead throughout the school year to create an overall positive school climate. They decided to start by giving “A beautiful rose to a beautiful teacher."

Syracuse Academy of Science elementary students write letters to veterans

Thursday, November 10th, 2022: Scholars in Mrs. Bloss' Second Grade Class at Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary worked hard to write letters to special Veterans in their lives and the community. The children explored what it means to be a Veteran and the rights they defended when honoring our country. We would also like to give a special shout-out to two Veterans in particular that the children wrote to that served overseas and now serve as police officers in the Syracuse Community; Officer DiPuccio and Officer Bougourd. Thank you for your service.

Happy Veterans Day!

SAS Elementary Atoms Compete in CNY Bridge Competition

Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary school Participates in CNY Bridge Competition

Saturday, November 5th, 2022: Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary Atoms also competed in the CNY Bridge Building competition at the MOST. Our team had to endure strict regulations to qualify for the competition. Their bridges were checked by inspectors, ensuring each was the correct height, width, and weight. Once they qualified, they got to wear a special badge that told individuals they were competing. Our team then waited until it was our time to test the bridges. The process started with their bridge being placed on a podium with a weight resting on the bottom. Under their bridge was a chain attached to the weight and a lever. Once the chain was connected, the bridge tester pushed on the lever. The harder they pushed, the more weight was placed on the bridge. Once the bridge reached its max capacity of weight, it snapped.

Overall, it was a fun experience, and the students worked hard on their bridges. Good work, team! You all should be proud of your achievements and the efforts you put forth for this competition. A big thank you to the families that took time out of their morning to attend their child’s competition. Without you, it would not have been possible.
