Friday, March 17, 2023: Syracuse Academy of Science 7th graders kicked it over to The Ultimate Goal in Marcellus. Atoms had a great time participating in team-building activities and games. It was a great field trip, and scholars had fun playing on the green field on the green day (St. Patrick's Day!)
Monday, March 10th, 2023: We would like to give a huge shoutout to William Wristley for donating a 3D printer and equipment to Syracuse Academy of Science High School. We are so grateful for your generosity and can’t wait to utilize this with our robotics program!
Friday, March 10th, 2023: Ms. Negron and Ms. Goyer's Kindergarten B class had a morning visit from the Science Academies of New York Superintendent Dr. Hayali. Dr. Hayali read the book "Skin Like Mine" by Latashia M. Perry to the students and discussed how everyone is different, and that's ok. It's important to love yourself for who you are. Dr. Hayali talked about his background, where he is from, and what he does as the superintendent of our school district. (It's more than just being a "super cool teacher" that "gives the kids cookies!" as some of our scholars stated!) Kindergarten B did a great job listening, raising their hands, and taking turns talking during the visit.
Thank you, Dr. Hayali, for taking the time to read to our Atoms and chat with them!
Wednesday, March 29th, 2023: The Yavuz family joined Syracuse Academy of Science second graders in Ms. Peryea's class to teach them about Ramadan, the holy month in Islam. Ramadan is observed from March 22nd through April 20th by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. The family shared some of the traditions they have in their house to celebrate Ramadan and the purpose behind them. Their son Mahir read "It's Ramadan, Curious George '' and answered questions from the class. Mrs. Yavuz prepared a beautiful lantern craft for students to complete. They also gave students a Ramadan coloring activity as a parting gift!
We love to learn about other cultures and traditions, and we appreciate our student's family sharing their time with us!

Monday, March 6th, 2023: Syracuse Academy of Science 7C class channeled their inner artist for a clay project! Students chose either a project posted to their Google classroom or their own design. After problem-solving how they would create their art, they started sculpting with air-dry clay (along with traditional clay techniques such as slip and score, slabs, coils, etc.) to create various 3D art pieces.
Please see our Facebook post for more photos of the masterpieces.
