The SASCS MathCounts Team won the 2nd Place in Central New York Chapter Competition which was held on February 5th, 2011 at Lockheed Martin Corporation. The team had been working extremely hard for the last 19 weekends. Prior to the competition, students participated in a four-day Winter Camp at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in December to sharpen their minds. The Mathletes came into school on Saturdays for rigorous study sessions, as well as visiting Harvard, and MIT, where they held sessions in classrooms on campus.
Students also participated in team building exercises, going horseback riding, and rode Go Karts.
Mathletes Win The Gold Medal in MathCounts Competition
Competing with seven other schools in central New York, Syracuse Academy of Science Charter School MathCounts team ran away with first place at the annual MathCounts competition at Lockheed Martin’s on Saturday February 6. The MathCounts team win, qualifies them to participate the state competition, representing Central New York to be held on March 13th, 2010 at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy NY. Our team members also earned individual awards: Magdhi Hill, 1st Place; Dalton Houde, 2nd Place: Larissa Knodel, 4th place. First Place Team members: Magdi Hill; Dalton Houde; Larissa Knodel; and Said Sirin.
Our MathCounts Team has just come from an intense study session held in Ithaca, NY this weekend. The head coach, Mr. D, arranged Cornell University Campus to review for 2010 MathCounts Chapter Test to be held on February 6th, 2010.
