Friday, March 18th, 2022—Last month, Syracuse Academy of Science elementary school and high school students were awarded for their outstanding achievements in New York State testing from the 2020 - 2021 school year. To celebrate their success, Atoms received a gift card from Terra Science and Education. 

In addition, Syracuse Academy of Science elementary school students in the third and fourth grades were invited to the presentation ceremony to help motivate and provide incentives for this year's New York State testing.

Friday, March 25th, 2022—Syracuse Academy of Science high school's 9^th-grade students kicked off their Shakespeare unit by attending a modern-day performance of Macbeth at the Red House Arts Center.

This modern Macbeth performance follows a brave Scottish general who receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that he will become King one day. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the Scottish throne for himself. He is then wracked with guilt and paranoia. 

Redhouse Artistic Director Temar Underwood directs this play with the titular role performed by Jon Hoche, who was the voice and puppeteer behind King Kong on Broadway.

Saturday, April 2nd, 2022—Back by popular demand, Syracuse Academy of Science high school is excited to kick-off its Senior Spotlight. Throughout the remainder of the school year, we will be highlighting various members of the Class of 2022 with our Senior Spotlight series. Tuesday, March 15th, 2022—Congratulations to the Syracuse Academy of Science middle school students who received a proficient score on the ELA and Math State tests for the 2021 - 2022 Academic year. 

Students were eligible to receive a $75 Terra Science and Education junior scholarship award. The goal of the scholarship is to challenge students to do their best and prepare for future high-stakes tests such as the Regents exams and SAT/ACT exams.

Sunday, March 27th, 2022—Syracuse Academy of Science high school and elementary school students competed in the Museum of Science and Technology (MOST)’s 42nd annual CNY Science and Engineering Fair (CNYSEF). Atoms competed alongside students from grades 4-8 (Junior Division) and 9-12 (Senior Division) throughout Central New York for a chance to win dozens of merit award prizes, scholarships, and qualifying status for Society for Science’s Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).

Monday, March 14th, 2022—'Come to the math side; we have Pi!

Syracuse Academy of Science middle school Project-Based Learning (PBL) 6^th and 7^th-grade students celebrated Pi Day (probably around 1:59 PM) with hands-on, minds-on Pi Day activities. Atoms worked together to solve Pi Day-related questions in a classroom-wide scavenger hunt, put on their sleuthing hats to solve Pi Day trivia questions on the internet, and figured out the circumference of various delicious treats. We all know that Pi Day isn't complete without personal pies!

Tuesday, March 15th, 2022—As part of Syracuse Academy of Science high school's Career Exploration series, we welcomed Syracuse University alumna Emily Mahana, a civil engineer at local engineering firm, Barton Loguidice. Emily spoke with students in grades 9 -12 who were interested in learning more about a future career in engineering or becoming a civil engineer one day.

During her session, Emily shared what a day in the life of a civil engineer. For instance, Emily spoke about projects she has worked on, different avenues and projects civil engineers can work on such as building highways, supervising infrastructure projects, and more, and the various education and licensing requirements to become a civil engineer.

Monday, February 28th, 2022—We are getting you ‘ARTED’ with some exciting news on a Wednesday! In February, Syracuse Academy of Science high school student Ranelle Duncan-Letts participated in the first annual Black History Month Art Contest presented by the Syracuse Police Athletic/Activities League (PAL) for a chance to win $300. To participate, participants must be between the ages of 13 - 18 years old and had to feature one of the following people in their art piece: Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, Vicki Brackens, Malcom X, Jackie Robinson, Oprah Winfrey, Coretta Scott King, Sidney Poitier, Syracuse Fire Chief Michael Monds, Syracuse Police Chief Kenton Buckner, Syracuse Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens, Richard Parsons, Marcus Garvey, New York State Assemblywoman Pamela Hunter, or a relative.

We are excited to announce that Ranelle won first place with her drawing of Coretta Scott King! Congratulations, Ranelle; we are very proud of you and all you have accomplished.

Friday, March 18th, 2022—The kindness and support of big and small organizations help make all the difference in the world, especially with student clubs and organizations.

We want to highlight a recent donation made to the Syracuse Academy of Science high school Robotics team on this giving Tuesday. This month, Business Machines and Equipment, Inc. (BME) donated $1,000 to the Robotics team to help support them in upcoming competitions and future events.

Friday, March 18th, 2022 - Congratulations to the  Syracuse Academy of Science high school boys basketball team for their incredible season and accomplishments in the Section III Class A Boys Basketball tournament. Your hard work has certainly not gone unnoticed.
 
A special thank you and shout out to all of our student-athlete parents, coaches, and fans for your continued support throughout the season. Your efforts have made a difference and impacted all of the Atoms. Thank you!
 
To conclude the season, we invite you to watch the video game highlights of the Syracuse Academy of Science Boys Basketball team in their Section III Class A Finals against the New Hartford Central School District. This game was held on Sunday, March 6th at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena. The final score of the game was 65-61
