Friday, February 10th, 2023: Time to shine the spotlight on another fabulous staff member at Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary! This is Mrs. Georgiadis-Greenwald's eighth year working for SANY. She loves working with students to help them achieve their reading goals and see the "lightbulb" moments for her kiddos. She holds several roles at SANY, including Reading Specialist, Intervention Coordinator, and Academic Coach. Mrs. Georgiadis-Greenwald graduated from SUNY Oswego. Her family inspires her. She says they have helped her become who she is and motivated her to be the best person to make them proud. Thank you for all that you do, Mrs. Georgiadis-Greenwald!
Monday, February 13th, 2023: Syracuse Academy of Science has been working with Upstate Medical University for two years to develop a medical pathway for our students. Through the program called UMU @ SANY, our Syracuse Academy of Science high school students have been able to meet with future doctors and medical professionals. After months of these meetings and solving case studies, #SASAtoms finally visited Upstate Medical University! Participants in this program will not have to take the MCAT if they attend UMU.
Friday, February 10th, 2023: Syracuse Academy of Science high school is paying it forward in a time of tragedy. Atoms organized a fundraiser for earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria. They raised a total of $1123, which will all be used to support the families and victims affected by this devastation.
Wednesday, February 8th, 2023: Colonel Thomas Carello from the Civil Air Patrol, Mary Wood, Charles Garland, and Abdul Shakir from the Onondaga County chapter of the Rotary Club spoke with our 6th and 7th-grade students about Civil Air Patrol. Syracuse Academy of Science Atoms learned about the opportunity to experience the flight simulator at Hancock airport and how to obtain their private pilot's license by age 16! Our Atoms were very engaged in the conversation and asked insightful questions. The program Colonel Carello talked about starts at age 12 and is free to any of our students who wish to participate. If you would like more information, don't hesitate to contact the main office.

Tuesday, February 7th, 2023: It doesn't HAVE to be a snowman! Each month, Syracuse Academy of Science elementary sends home projects for students to complete with their families. The projects are voluntary but encouraged so we can all glimpse each student’s family culture, traditions, and stories. We had some fun with January’s project! Families were tasked with taking an ordinary snowman outline and turning it into something else.
Take a look at the “Disguise a Snowman” family project. Thank you to all the families that participated!
Monday, January 6th, 2023: Syracuse Academy of Science 4th graders are making food sculptures out of toilet paper! The artists added color, details, and decorations to their masterpieces.
Sculpture teaches students to think beyond the flat 2nd dimension and bring real-life problem-solving into their artwork. Sculpting also aids in developing observational skills. Students will learn how to watch the world in full detail. They will be more considerate in looking at each part of an object. Besides learning sculpture, scholars will learn to picture the world more realistically.
Please check our Facebook for more photos.
Friday, January 27th, 2023: Syracuse Academy of Science third graders had a fun-filled day at wonderworks. They experienced hurricane wind stimulation, played mind games, rode a virtual roller coaster, and even laid on a bed of nails (ouch!). The students worked hard the last couple of weeks learning how to tell time and all about Vikings. So, this was a well-deserved “break” to enjoy each other’s company!
