2016-2017 Dean's List Dinner for the Middle School

On Friday, May 24th, 2017 the SAS Middle School held its Dean's List Dinner.  In order to qualify, each student had to achieve the high honor roll each of the first three quarters of the school year. We were proud to have over forty students hit this achievement, nearly double of the previous year! With friends and families present, we celebrated their amazing work over dinner. We are proud of their accomplishments and look forward to next year's group being even larger! Go ATOMS!

2017 International Fair at the Middle School

On Friday, May 19th, 2017  SAS Middle School held it's 2nd Annual International Fair. Students had been working for the past three months on three culturally relevant projects, ranging from researching traditional clothing to cooking an authentic dish. Having students learn about cultures from around the world widens their world view and provides students an opportunity to explore their differences and similarities. Students and families enjoyed learning about other countries (and eating delicious food!). Our diversity is one of the biggest strengths of the Syracuse Academy of Science! Through out differences, we are stronger!

2016-2017 Art & Music Show at the Middle School

On Thursday May 18th 2017, the Middle School held its Spring Concert & Art Show. Under the direction of Mrs. Christina Cleason, our students came together to put on an amazing musical performance! Our spring concert theme was "Music from TV and Movies". The beginning and advanced bands played themes from well know TV shows and movies. Each grade level presented an outstanding choral performance of some of the top hits from movies produced over the last several years. This concert also featured three small group performances which were student created. Our spring concert was full of energy and lighthearted music, which made the evening a great success! In the art genre, Ms. Brett led an amazing show of student skill. Beautiful works of art were displayed showcasing their knowledge of the 7 Elements of Art as well as the 7 Principles of design. The students utilized multiple medias and techniques to create chalk pastel mandalas, mixed media cave art, colored pencil silhouettes, painted animal vectors, marker felt drawings, and painted waves to emphasize movement. The students were very proud to show off their artistic talent and hard work which made for a lovely evening full of lovely artists. The Arts are at the core of what we do at SAS with the leadership of these amazing teachers and the great work of the students under their direction!

Sean O'Keefe, University Professor at Syracuse University, spent time with our fourth grade students on June 2, 2017. During his visit, he engaged students with STEM discussions about NASA, space, and his distinguished career. The students were thrilled to learn about his opportunities to work in the White House for two different presidents, NASA, the United State NAVY, and Syracuse University. Before his arrival, students prepared questions about his many awards and accomplishments. Mr. O'Keefe demonstrated enthusiasm to respond about lifelong learning.
