Student Life at Alfred State College

On Monday September 18th, 2017, Choosing the right college takes a lot of planning and requires gathering a lot of information. To help SASCS seniors make the best decisions when finalizing their plans for the future, they recently met with an admissions representative from Alfred State College on September 18. They learned what makes Alfred State University unique and what to expect during the transition from high school to college. Topics discussed included campus life in Allegany County and requirements necessary for applying to the technology-focused college, which is one of eight Colleges of Technology within the SUNY system.

Elementary visits Beak & Skiff

On Wednesday September 20th, 2017 ,Third grade had a beautiful day for their first field trip of the year to Beak & Skiff. We were lucky to not only have gorgeous weather, but the honey crisp apples were ripe for the picking! The students enjoyed a wagon ride through the orchards and picking the giant apples. Some sampling may have happened. Afterwards, students played in the play area, had a picnic lunch, and finished their visit with fresh apple cider and donuts. Fun was had by all!

The kindergarten classes went on their first field trip this year to Beak and Skiff Apple Orchard. They had lots of fun learning about how apples grow and the importance of bees in the process. Even though the sun was not shining, their smiles sure did brighten up the day. As many of them said, "Apple picking was fun!"

Sharing Hope, Dreams and Granola Bars with Grandparents

On Friday, September 8th, 2017, in honor of National Grandparents’ Day, students at SASCS elementary school celebrate the special bond between grandparents and grandchildren at “Granola Bars with Grandparents Day”. Students greet loved ones with open arms and lots of smiles, then spend time drawing pictures of them while engaging in uplifting conversations. The special occasion provides an important opportunity for students to gain greater awareness of the vital strength, love and guidance older adults in their lives can offer and enjoy giving. It also encourages people of all ages to work together to foster greater communication from one generation to another.

SAS Elementary Tour de Cure 2017

On Sunday, June 11, 2017, Evan O’Neill, a 2nd grade student with Type 1 Diabetes along with his family, friends and PE teacher, Mr. Kiggins, rode their bikes in the CNY Tour de Cure. Along with their ride, teachers from the elementary school including Ms. Peryea, Ms. Gielarowski, Ms. Williams, Ms. Chetwin, Ms. Wicks, Ms. Georgiadis and Mrs. Lattuca volunteered their time manning a rest stop on the 65 and 100 mile route. They themed the rest stop with Dr. Seuss, perfectly relevant for elementary school staff. With the O’Neill team Sugar Blue Eyes, the elementary school raised just over $800 toward the American Diabetes Association in the name of finding a cure as a part of their team total of $3,611! We are so proud of Evan for completing the ten mile ride and enjoyed a beautiful, warm day supporting the riders at Tour de Cure.
