7th Grade Atoms Create a Sales Pitch in Class

Syraucse Academy of Science get Creative by Making Sales Pitches

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2022: 7th-grade middle school students exercised their presentation and teamwork skills with the What’s in the Room “sales pitch.” Students were given 20 minutes to choose an item in the room and brainstorm how to sell it to the judges (AKA Mrs. Nickless, Mr. Jan, and Ms. Obrist). Then they had to create a flier including the name of the product, logo/slogan, how much they were selling the item for, and where they could sell it. Students wowed the judges with colorful fliers, website designs, and even a commercial!

SAS Middle Schoolers get the WonderWorks Experience

6th & 7th Grade Syracuse Academy of Science Atoms Mix Fun & Science at WonderWorks

Thursday & Friday, November 17th- 18th, 2022: 6th and 7th-grade students combined science with entertainment at WonderWorks inside Destiny USA. With more than 100 unique exhibits and activities, students got hands-on experience making HUGE bubbles, feeling the power of hurricane-force winds, and entering into astronaut training. Students also had a blast with laser tag and braving the multi-level ropes course.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: OCRRA Teaches 2nd Graders about Sustainability

OCRRA Visits Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School

Thursday, November 17th, 2022: Second graders at Syracuse Academy of Science had a guest speaker from OCRRA teach them how recycling works in Onondaga county. Atoms watched a short video on how recyclables are separated, then showed examples of items to recycle or throw away. 

It’s important to teach children about sustainability. It’s a skill they will keep with them for the rest of their lives.

MS Robotics Team Gearing up for Vex IQ Competition

Syracuse Academy of Science Middle School Robotics Team Building Robots for this Year's Vex IQ Competition

Wednesday, November 16th, 2022: The middle school robotics team is gearing up for this year’s Vex IQ competitions. With a foundation built on solid problem-solving and collaboration, teams work together to build a robot that will collect discs and then “shoot” or push them into a goal. The VEX IQ Competition is presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation. It provides elementary and middle school students with exciting, open-ended robotics challenges that enhance their STEM skills.

SAS HS Band Students Visit Ithaca College

Syracuse Academy of Science Band Students Visit Ithaca College

Wednesday, November 16th, 2022: Our curriculum focuses on getting students into college, an important part of which is college visits. The Syracuse Academy of Science high school band visited Ithaca College. They rehearsed in a clinic with the director of bands, Dr. Rochford, ate in the cafeteria, toured the campus, had an admissions information session, and observed a wind ensemble rehearsal. They learned a lot about music, band, and college while having a great time.
