Regular school attendance is a major component of academic success. Students, parents and school personnel are responsible for monitoring and limiting levels of absences, tardiness and early departures.
This booklet offers a current description of courses taught in grades 7-11. Each class is 45 minutes long and is either a half-year or a full-year in duration. A Student Planner is provided to each student at the beginning of the school year. It is highly recommended that this planner be used for students to chart homework assignments as well as daily activities.
The Syracuse Academy of Science Charter School is a college preparatory junior/senior high school. Accordingly, we encourage our students to maintain a rigorous and competitive high school program, whose end result will make them viable candidates for acceptance at their college or university of choice.
Any staff member or parent may submit a complaint. Complaints may be submitted to the appropriate person either verbally or in writing. Before filing a Level-IV written complaint to the School Board, you are expected to follow the following sequence of procedures:
The purpose of SAS uniform policy is to help create a safe and orderly
environment, instill discipline, and eliminate the competition and distractions
caused by varied dress styles. Each student is expected to, and MUST, arrive in
dress code is appreciated. The following is the uniform code for school and it
must be followed strictly.
All children who would be eligible for enrollment in public schools in New York State in the available grades will be eligible to enroll in the charter school, subject to availability and the process set forth in the SASCS Charter and outlined in the Enrollment Package filed by every applicant. Part of this process is to verify student residency.
Teachers and other staff members are role models for the students. The manner in which teachers and staff present themselves will be reflected in the conduct of the students and in the respect given teachers, staff and the school by the community.
Parents will become an integral part of the operation of the SASCS in order to ensure high student achievement. There will be many opportunities for parents to be directly involved in the education of their children. Parental empowerment, as well as parental involvement, will be the goal at SASCS.
The Syracuse Academy of Science Charter School homeless liaison will insure that homeless children and youth are identified by school personnel through coordination with other entities and agencies enrolled homeless students will have full and equal opportunity to succeed
