Admission to the Syracuse Academy of Science Charter School shall not be limited on the basis of intellectual ability, measures of achievement or aptitude, athletic ability, disability, race, creed, national origin, religion or on any other ground that would be unlawful.
All children who would be eligible for enrollment in public schools in New York State in the available grades will be eligible to enroll in the charter school, subject to availability and the process set forth below.
SASCS will admit each eligible student who submits a timely application, unless the number of applications exceeds the capacity of the student's requested grade level or of the school building. Prospective students and their parents or guardians also will be encouraged to spend a day visiting the school and sitting in on classrooms. It is important that the school ensure that students and parents/guardians understand the values of the school and its academic and social expectations before they be asked to make a decision to enroll their children. The school will take whatever additional steps are deemed necessary to make sure that parents/guardians are provided with this important information Interested parents/guardians will be required to complete and submit an application form, which will be made available at the school and at the school's open houses at accessible locations throughout the community. The application will be fairly simple, requesting basic biographical information (name, age, etc.), contact information and other important facts (e.g., school currently attended). Whenever a vacancy occurs, either prior to the start of a particular school year or during the course of that school year, the school will contact the parent or guardian of the student next on the appropriate waiting list. Reasonable and multiple attempts will be made to contact the family of the student on the top of the waiting list and confirm whether or not the student is still interested in enrolling at the charter school before proceeding to the next name on the list. Along with a completed application, please submit the following documents.
A copy of the student’s birth certificate The student’s most recent report card A high school transcript with Regents grades (if applicable) Proof of residency (driver’s license, phone bill, etc.) A copy of the most recent IEP (if applicable) Immunization records Documentation of a physical examination (done within the past 12 months) Documentation of a dental exam (for kindergarten only).
