| SAS Tops in Academics and Athletics |

Syracuse Academy of Science Charter School is proud to have two teams, one academic and the other athletic, achieve first place in their respective divisions. SAS celebrated its students’ successes on February 12th with an awards ceremony. The SAS MathCounts Team won first place in the Central New York 2010 MathCounts Chapter Test held on February 6th. Eighth graders Magdhi Hill, Dalton Houde, Larissa Knodel, Alperen Sirin, Bilgenur Sirin, Kaeden LaFrance and Cory Kukulski and seventh grader Diamond DeNardo were honored at our ceremony. The team, under the direction of Mr. Demiray, will now compete on the state level. SAS congratulates you!
The SAS Atoms Varsity Basketball team was also honored for winning the Onondaga High School Level Patriot National League Championship with a record-breaking 16-2 season. The team was awarded a trophy, certificates, patches and a banner at our ceremony. The Atoms and their coach Mr. Onur will continue onto Sectionals. The JV Atoms and our cheerleading team, under the direction of Mr. Vogt and Ms. Newsome respectively, were also honored for their hard work this season. Go Atoms! Awards of Excellence were given to eleventh graders Stephen Wang and Charlene Murray who participated in the Division-C Science Olympiad on January 30th. Thanks for your hard work!
