Mathletes Win The Gold Medal in MathCounts Competition PDF Print E-mail

   Competing with seven other schools in central New York, Syracuse Academy of Science Charter School MathCounts team ran away with first place at the annual MathCounts competition at Lockheed Martin’s on Saturday February 6.  The MathCounts team win, qualifies them to participate the state competition, representing Central New York to be held on March 13th, 2010 at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy NY.    Our team members also earned individual awards: Magdhi Hill, 1st Place; Dalton Houde, 2nd Place: Larissa Knodel, 4th place.  First Place Team members: Magdi Hill; Dalton Houde; Larissa Knodel; and Said Sirin.

   Seven other area schools participated in the competition this year: North Syracuse Jr-Sr High; Onondaga Hill Middle School; Manlius Pebble Hill; HW Smith School; Syracuse Academy of Science; Fulton Jr. High School Christian Brothers Academy.  

   The purpose of the MathCounts Program is the promotion of mathematical competency.  MathCounts targets middle & junior high school students at decisive stages in the development of their interest in mathematics.  Students compete at the local, state and national competitions; and prizes are awarded at each level of competition.  The State winner at RPI will progress to the national competition at Orlando Florida in May.
