The ultimate goal of the Guidance Department at the Syracuse Academy of Science is to advocate for students and their families, to ensure the continuing development of their academic, career exploration, and social/personal skills.

Counseling services provided at SASCS include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • individual counseling
  • crisis counseling/intervention
  • character education
  • group counseling
  • career information
  • classroom support
  • guidance in academic concerns
  • counseling for coping with loss or illness
  • preparing for life transitions
  • continual consultation with staff, parents, and community
  • help in developing age-appropriate social skills
  • coordination with outside agencies or therapists
  • counseling for homelessness 

The counseling relationship that is built with students will remain confidential unless

  • there is potential harm to the student or others
  • there is permission to share information from the student or the student’s guardian, or
  • the court requests legal documentation.
