Thursday, November 17th, 2022: Second graders at Syracuse Academy of Science had a guest speaker from OCRRA teach them how recycling works in Onondaga county. Atoms watched a short video on how recyclables are separated, then showed examples of items to recycle or throw away.
It’s important to teach children about sustainability. It’s a skill they will keep with them for the rest of their lives.
Wednesday, November 16th, 2022: The middle school robotics team is gearing up for this year’s Vex IQ competitions. With a foundation built on solid problem-solving and collaboration, teams work together to build a robot that will collect discs and then “shoot” or push them into a goal. The VEX IQ Competition is presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation. It provides elementary and middle school students with exciting, open-ended robotics challenges that enhance their STEM skills.
We are very proud of the SAS middle school robotics team.
Wednesday, November 16th, 2022: Our curriculum focuses on getting students into college, an important part of which is college visits. The Syracuse Academy of Science high school band visited Ithaca College. They rehearsed in a clinic with the director of bands, Dr. Rochford, ate in the cafeteria, toured the campus, had an admissions information session, and observed a wind ensemble rehearsal. They learned a lot about music, band, and college while having a great time.
Tuesday, November 15th, 2022: Fifth, sixth, and seventh grade students from Syracuse Academy of Science middle school had an opportunity to have lunch with SANY superintendent Dr. Tolga Hayali. Students discussed college and career plans for their future, and offered suggestions on how to improve our school! It was a positive and welcoming conversation.
Tuesday, November 15th, 2022: Atoms in Syracuse Academy of Science 1C class went on a field trip to Little Ray’s Nature Center. Tucked inside Destiny USA, it’s a hidden gem that you can almost miss if you aren’t looking! Our students had a wonderful time learning about different animals and species. They were even brave enough to touch a crested gecko, a ferret, and a turtle!
